Tianquan County is located at the western margin of Sichuan Basin, the eastern foothills of Erlang Mountain, the southern section of Qionglai Mountains, and the eastern end of the Kangba Culture area. Tianquan Resources

Tianquan is located in the evergreen broad-leaved forest zone of central subtropical zone in semi-humid evergreen broad-leaved forest area. The evergreen broad-leaved forest grows well, with rich species composition and complex community structure. Along with the elevation of topography and the change of climate, the vegetation community and plant species are distributed vertically regularly in the areas above 1,500m altitude. The zone of low mountains, hills, river valleys and flat lands is located at 600-1,500m altitude, mainly the low mountains and hills, followed by the agriculture areas of river valleys and flats lands. In addition to the fast-growing weeds in shaded lands and beside ditches, the natural vegetation includes such underbrush as Coriaria sinica, reeds and ferns and such trees as fir, alder, masson pine, and cypress. The area of middle mountains, river valleys and deep hills is lactated at 1,500-3,000m altitude, and the natural vegetation includes such trees as fir, oak, Celastrus angulatus and dove tree, and such shrubs as hickory, azalea and Chinese rose. The zone of middle mountain plateau is located at 1,800-3,500m, with dense forests and rich wild resources, including shrubs, underbrush, deciduous broad-leaved forest, ground cover, etc. The alpine zone is located over 3,500m and mainly has fir, alpine shrubs, alpine Melia azedarach, and alpine meadows.

Tianquan County is one of the forestry base counties in Sichuan Province, rich in forest resources, and one of the first key counties to implement natural forest protection project. Tianquan owns a forest area of 197,107.33ha, a total stock of living tree of 18 million m3 and forest coverage of 73%. The timber forests of such places as Dahe and Baisha River account for 90% timber forests of whole Tianquan County. The forests of Labahe Nature Reserve are used for protection of wild animal resources and scenery. The protection forests are mainly distributed in western Dahe and Baisha River zones. The county owns 259 tree species and the dominant tree species are fir, oak, spruce, hard broad-leaved trees, soft broad-leaved trees, birch, China fir and masson pine according to the stock volume. As for tree species under state protection, Grade I species involves dove tree, Grade II species involves Cercidiphyllum japonicum, Tetracentron sinense and Eucommia, Grade III species involves green fir, Magnolia wilsonii, Euptelea pleiospermum, Cinnamomum mairei, and Magnolia officinalis. The ancient rare trees are mainly distributed in the original forest areas of the west, many of which are fir and spruce with ages of over thousands of years, and the famous ones include "Tiangu Tree" and "Ancient Ginkgo" and "Taxus". In addition, the "ebony" with unknown age is also very precious.

According to incomplete statistics, there are 300 species of vertebrates in Tianquan County, including 76 species of 24 families of 7 orders of mammals, 171 species of 35 families of 14 orders of birds, 17 species of 7 families of 1 order of reptiles, 22 species of 7 families of 2 orders of amphibians, and 14 species of 5 families of 4 orders of fish. Identified insects involve 185 species of 158 genera of 56 families of 10 orders. 11 species are under first grade state protection and 27 species are under second grade state protection. Among them: Animals under first class state protection include giant panda, takin, snub-nosed monkey, etc.; animals under second class state protection include macaque, lesser panda, golden cat, leopard, red deer, Tragopan temminckii, etc.; and animals under third class state protection include zibet, civet, goral, lady amherst pheasant, etc.. Rare and protected fish species: Hucho taimen, living in the western part of the upper reaches of the Tianquan River, is one of the unique fish species in Sichuan Province, is the most southern species of salmonidae fish on the earth, known as "underwater living fossil", and it was listed as a key protected fish species by the Tianquan County People's Government in 1983. Special animals include Schizothorax waltoni, Schizothorax prenanti, earless lizard, etc.

Tianquan County is rich in water power resources, and the theoretical reserve of water power is 1.1402 million kW (excluding 712,600 kW of passing-by rivers of Yingjing). The theoretical reserve of water power of Tianquan River is 582,100 kW, and the exploitable capacity is 494,000 kW. There are 14 second and third-level tributaries, with a theoretical reserve of water power of 558,100 kW and a exploitable capacity of 218,600 kW. The annual average surface runoff of surface water is 3.771 billion m3, and the average runoff is 1,576mm. The total amount of natural water in the county is 6.714 billion m3.

The land of whole county is 2,394km2, including a farming land area of 12,284.74 ha and a forest land area of 197,107.33 ha, and the rest area involves grasslands, gardens, traffic lands, mines and other lands. The soil is complex and diverse, and the natural soil is divided into 10 types, such as paddy soil, alluvial soil, purple soil, yellow soil, and alpine frost desert soil. Grazing lands are mainly distributed in middle and high mountain areas and the carrying capacity per mu is 38.5 cattle.

Tianquan County is rich in mineral resources. 25 kinds of minerals have been found, including coal, manganese, iron, copper, nickel, lead, zinc, platinum, pyrite, bauxite, hard refractory clay, silica, glauberite, gypsum, phosphorus, granite for for finishing, basalt, quartz sandstone for metallurgy, limestone for cement, dolomite for metallurgy, sandstone for building, sand for building, shale for cement burden, and shale for brick and tile. There are 112 mining areas, including 17 areas of exploration rights and 43 areas of mining rights. The dominant mineral resources in Tianquan County are coal, bauxite, pyrite, quartz sandstone for metallurgy, limestone for cement and basalt. The above mineral resources are relatively concentrated and have obvious regional characteristics.

In 2018, the total social investment in fixed assets of Tianquan County reached RMB 4.82 billion, an increase of 8.2%. 17 urban construction projects with a total investment of RMB 4.02 billion were accelerated. The construction of two new cities was accelerated. More than 200 households were resettled from Shaba, Shuicheng and other areas. 16 traffic construction projects with a total investment of RMB 950 million were implemented in an orderly manner. The project of 18.6km Guolangqiao Renovation and Expansion Road with a total investment of RMB 580 million was accelerated and the National Highway G318 Renovation Project was completed. The construction of "four-good rural roads" was steadily advanced, and 72.2km industrial roads were newly built. 9.4km Cangyuqiao-Yuquan Township Road was renovated. 34km Rural Road Safety Project was completed. The construction of 3.6km Renxin Road is accelerated. 12.4km Rural Road Improvement Project was started and Jieliu Road, Shiduo Road and Jinsi Road Upgrading Project was advanced smoothly. With a total investment of RMB 120 million, Tianquan Connecting Line of Ya'an-Kangding Expressway was commenced, and the entrance widening work was carried out in an orderly manner.
